The signing of Jürgen Klinsmann

Is Jürgen Klinsmann, the new US men’s soccer head coach, the right person who can make soccer more popular and successful in the US? Klinsmann is definitely the big signing the US soccer fans were hoping for over the last years. In recent soccer World Cups or other big tournaments the US soccer team never played a bad role but they also never exceeded their expectations. In recent years we can hear people saying, that will be the World Cup the US will finally make a run but we are still waiting for that run for many years. Now they finally signed Jürgen Klinsmann as new head coach and he will try to turn soccer around in the US. He will start with grass roots programs in elementary schools, which will support young children to become more familiar with the game of soccer. The ideas Klinsmann have are great but they will take time. The question is if the US soccer federation as well as the soccer fans will give him the time he needs. In most of the sports in the US it is about winning. The soccer fans and officials need to understand that it might take four to five years to see first results in all the changes he is making. If they give him the time he needs, the US will have a really strong team in the 2018 World Cup in Russia and will definitely be one of the favorites to win the tournament. One cannot expect the US team to be that strong in the 2014 World Cup already due to all the changes which are happening at the structure of us soccer right now. The 2014 World Cup is only two and a half years away and it will be too soon to see results. Soccer fans need to be patient for a little longer. On the other hand, if the soccer officials in the US won’t give him the time he needs and fire him, everything will be worse than before. At the moment Klinsmann is turning everything that has to do with soccer around but if he leaves or gets fires nobody knows what to do next.
