Sexual Abuse; The New Trend In Sport?

As Penn State is trying to heal its wound amidst one of the most horrifying and stomach churning scandals in modern sport history, another case of rape has come into the light. Bernie Fine, an assistant basketball coach at Syracuse University is entering his 35th season with the program, and possibly his last.
Bobby Davis, now 35 years old, told ESPN that Fine started molesting him in 1984, and continued to do so until the age of 27. He was a team ball boy for 6 years and during that time was abused sexually in Fine's home, the team locker room, as well as other Syracuse athletic facilities and on road trips. Davis would room with Fine on road trips and no one thought anything of it. Head Coach Jim Boeheim released a statement saying, "I've known Bernie Fine for 45 years, and there's absolutely no way that I believe any of this could have possibly happened......that's the bottom line."
Davis filed a police report in 2003, and was told that there would be limitations on the investigation if a current victim could not be produced. Davis' step brother Mike Lang came forward and told ESPN that he too was molested by Fine as a ball boy when he was in the sixth grade. As of now Fine is still employed, but on leave and Syracuse has said it will fully cooperate with the police.
