Fight for Defeat of Ageism Defeated Tonight.

Old man quarterback Brandon Weeden experienced his first loss of the season tonight. Not only does this mean that the Oklahoma State Cowboys are surely out of the BCS National Championship game, but Weeden has also most likely lost out on his chance to win the Heisman Trophy.

The 28 year old quarterback would not be the first 28 year old to win the trophy, Chris Wienke did so in 2000, but Weeden would end up as the oldest recipient of the award. For the last several months, Weeden performed as one of the best quarterbacks in the nation and has given hope to all those in their late 20s with dreams of playing big time college football. Tonight that dream was shattered as it now appears that the 22 year old Andrew Luck will take the driver’s seat in the Heisman running.

Not only is Weeden mature for a college player, but seasoned for an NFL player as well. This week’s starting NFL quarterbacks Cam Newton, Josh Freeman, Matt Ryan, Matt Stafford, Alex Smith, Sam Bradford, Mark Sanchez, Joe Flacco, Colt McCoy, Tim Tebow, Andy Dalton, John Skelton, Matt Morre, Christian Ponder, Blaine Gabbert and Aaron Rodgers are all younger than Weeden. That’s 16 out of 28 teams playing this week. Matt Leinart and Curtis Painter both on a bye this week are also younger than Weeden. Tavaris Jackson, Vince Young, Matt Ryan and Tyler Palko are all 28 but slightly older than Weeden.

With tonight’s loss, us old man will have to work even harder to make it in college sports. Consolation prize: a trip to New York to watch youngster Andrew Luck win his Heisman.
