Social media has single-handedly managed to change the face of sport and the facets
that go along with it. The Long Beach State Women’s Soccer Team has been doing extremely
well and with every win comes the distribution of the information. However, gone
are the days that people must wait for press releases or the next day news to
see the latest sports results. After an amazing win this past Friday which
allowed LBSU Women’s Soccer to move into the sweet 16, the information was
immediately sent out. Instead of sending the great news via email, our staff
was instantly Tweeting videos and posting information on Face Book, You Tube
and Twitter. These three social mediums stand out the most in my mind as
turning people into impatient information fiends. It is amazing how quickly
social media has trained people to ignore these long standing information
sources and accept nothing less than instant gratification. However, this
should not be as surprising given other facets in life have already changed to
fulfill people’s needs more quickly and conveniently.
