I found this article to be interesting. I was surprised when we discussed this topic to find out that majority of "big schools" are losing money every year. Well this is a story of Alabama and the effects the football program has on the entire university. By using football profits the University of Alabama has benefited in all ares of education. So when we hear how much money Saban makes it makes you question is he truly being over paid? My assumption was that this his how majority of big football programs operate. Since the research is showing otherwise, I think other universities need to look into what Alabama has done right to turn a profit every year. Is it just the aura of Nick Saban? My opinion is that has to being something more than one person. For future sport managers I think it is important to know competitor strategies to compare and contrast. Like Mr. Haas explained its a game of chess and if you know your opponents next move you will always have the advantage. There has to be a formula for success for all the other failing athletic departments. It baffles me how athletic directors are able to lose money every year and continue to have jobs!
