Education of Sport, Gender, & Sexuality Inequality

Mondays 5/20/13 Reading and Lecture Review
The article “Attitudes and Sexual Prejudice in Sport and Physical Activity” that we reviewed for Monday 5/20/2013 lecture pointed out several important topics that future sport managers must be pay attention too.  The article points out that there is sexual prejudice in society and within all aspects of sport. I thought that it was surprising to find that results showed lower scores for both gay men and lesbians than for other minority groups, and that the largest of this group were heterosexual males having negative attitudes toward gay men. The article identifies the importance of creating diverse, inclusive sport programs for all, including sexual minorities, multicultural education and cultural competence.
The article also reviews the lack of Multicultural and gender/sexuality training for teachers in our public school. Homophobic and heterosexist behaviors in public schools are often witnessed but not confronted by educators.  As an individual with a teaching background, this was not a subject discussed or addressed in the education system.  I feel that for Gender & Sexuality Inequality to disappear we must address and educate at an early age. Differences between people should not be as important as the similarities that highlight positive attributes as a human race.
As sport management professionals we have a duty to recognize inequalities and injustices of co-workers, employees, and create an inclusive environment for all.
