Athletes as Politicians

Athletes do not make good politicians plain and simple. Robert really goes after the athletes of the past who have tried to become politicians in his article. There are man reasons why his argument is true. The biggest reason though is that athletes have become so disconnected from real life that they do not make choices that represent what the people would want. In the early years of professional athletics athletes were not making huge sums of money like they do today so they were still leading relatively similar lifestyles to many people. Professional sports has become such an intense lifestyle though that very few actually lead that life. Some get an idea after a while that they can use their new found pulpit to become these 'saviors of society' and start making laws. Unfortunately most come falling back down to Earth pretty hard. Athletes do not make good politicians given the current structure and operation of the American sport complex. Having a visible platform to use like athletes do can be good but only under the right circumstances. http://www.cbsnews.com/2100-215_162-6972280.html?pageNum=2&tag=contentMain;contentBody - Rachel Wantuch.
