Olympic organizers are considering having their female boxers wear skirts during their matches in order to differentiate with their male counterparts. The above link will direct you to the article. Wearing skirts will make women look more like women and baggy shorts make males look like men. The problem with this proposition is that the Boxing Federation and the Olympics are increasing the division between males and females. Females have had difficulty getting acknowledge in the sport industry because males always get the publicity and attention. Females have been discriminated in sports and they do not get the recognition they deserve.
Forcing females to wear skirts adds to this discrimination because its telling the world that there is a difference between the two genders. Olympic organizers and the boxing federation can also force males to wear something different besides shorts to distinguish the two genders. It is obvious there is a difference between the two genders and the audience does not need women boxers to wear skirts to distinguish the difference. The main objective of putting skirts on female boxers is to attract audience to the sport because they believe it gives boxers sex appeal. Women are discriminated in society and now they are expected to wear skirts in Olympic competition as well. The proposition is unfair and shorts should be allowable for both genders. Females put the same amount of time and dedication into the sport as males, and they should not be forced to be distinguish in such a sexist way inside the ring by Olympic organizers.
