Clippers ask Superfan "Clipper Darrell" to Lose their Nickname
Should sports fans have a right to cheer their teams on in any way they'd like to? Do fans have a right to be compensated for being 'superfans' This LA Clippers fan was given season tickets in the past, and is well known in the community as "Clipper Darrell" He has gone as far as making appearances at local schools and businesses as somewhat of a local celebrity. In the recent season, due to the addition of two star players, the Clippers have transformed into a winning team; but Darrell stuck with the team through their historic losing years. It seems that now that the team is winning, they no longer need representation from their die hard fans. I would think the exact opposite would be happening. When you have a loyal fan, dressing up for games in colorful suits, and showing support, I'd think the team would want to highlight this kind of fan when the losing streak ends and they begin to win games. The two new star players showed their support for Darrell via Twitter, but the Clippers administration is no longer interested in him representing the team in such an outgoing manner. I think as long as he is not taking money away from the team, or harming anyone with his actions, he should be able to refer to himself with what ever nickname he chooses.
